in this world
 there seems to be
 and infinity
 of issues
 to latch on to
 sometimes it seems
 that behind each
 small inking
 of possibility
 for positive change
 there is a range
 of issues
 even attached
 to solutions
 oh the extremes
 we jump to
 to try to
 reverse our
 historical curses
 that only seem
 to repeat
 can we please
 try to see
 something new

but see
 the only
 thing I've known
 to be truly
 newly
 made
 has been
 my own heart
 by God's
 great grace
 so maybe
 this new person
 that I have been made
 could someday
 make a change

though hope
 feels far
 though tidal waves
 await
 I pray

 that peace
 may remain
 as we face
 the brokenness
 of our human race
 and I say
 that a God
 who has made
 me new
 can renew
 even the
 darkest parts
 of all I know

 ever lost
 in the cracks
 of this human hierarchy

 ever discarded
 once their age
 was deemed ugly

for every minority
 ever pushed,

for all the rich

 the lie of value
 in money

for all the poor
 drowned in the weight
 of surviving
 even daily

for all disabled
 all dependent
 all indebted
 all enslaved
 for all depressed
 all traumatized
 all assaulted
 all whose hearts break

for so many
 I can't even name yet
 the hidden struggles
 the unpopular ones
 the ones lost to limelight
 the ones buried in history

oh, Lord
 if I long for justice
 I can't imagine
 how your heart breaks
